Visualization Techniques of Virtual Products

Vizualizacijske tehnike virtualnih izdelkov

Short course description

Short course description

Content of the short-term learning experience

The course entitled "Visualization Techniques of Virtual Products" is designed for those who wish to acquire new knowledge in the field of design visualization and comprises a comprehensive program that combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and an independent project assignment. The aim of the course is to enable participants to understand and utilize various visualization techniques in preparing presentations of virtual products for various purposes, including promotion, sales, and development presentations.

The training is divided into two parts:

  • Theoretical part, which includes:

- Introduction to product visualization techniques
- Principles of design and aesthetics
- Understanding of light, colour, texture, and materials
- Communication with visual elements
- Presentations and case studies from the industry

  • Practical part, which includes:

- Manual visualization techniques, including sketching and drawing
- Use of Keyshot software for computer visualization of products
- Utilization of various tools and techniques for creating realistic 3D renderings
- Composition and arrangement of products
- Use of cameras and lighting to enhance visual effects
The training concludes with an independent project assignment, where participants will apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills to visualize virtual models.

Coordinator of the short-term learning experience

Assistant Professor Dr. Jasmin Kaljun

is the head of the Master's degree programme in Product Design at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor. His research and pedagogical work are focused on introducing creative approaches to product design and development, based in ergonomic and aesthetic principles and relying on computer-aided design. He pays particular attention to the development and implementation of advanced computer technologies and the visualization of 3D models in a virtual environment. In his work, he develops techniques and approaches for realistic rendering using software packages such as Keyshot and Solidworks Visualize, as well as tools for graphic post-processing within the Corel software package.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Andrej Cupar

an assistant at the Laboratory for Product Design within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maribor, is deeply involved in the realm of 3D. His research and teaching work primarily encompasses concepts related to 3D modeling, 3D scanning, 3D prototyping, and the processing and preparation of 3D models using various software tools for realistic rendering of virtual 3D objects. These tools include Rhinoceros, Keyshot, and Solidworks Visualize. Additionally, for post-production of 2D graphics resulting from rendering, he utilizes software tools such as Corel or the open-source software GIMP.

Assist. Aleksander Praper

Objectives and competences

Objectives and competences

Participants will acquire competencies within the framework of the course that will enable them to independently create complex, targeted visualizations of virtual models. Participants will be able to independently build environments, scenes, for visualization purposes, and after completing the visualization, independently perform graphic post-processing of the visualizations. The acquired competencies will be demonstrated by participants through the implementation and presentation of an independent project assignment.

Prerequisites for enrolling

Prerequisites for enrolling

The course is intended for development engineers who typically encounter challenges addressed by visualisation of virtual models in their work. Teachers of technical subjects in the field of computer-aided design, 3D modelling, and CAD at secondary schools are also invited to participate in the training. The training is based on the assumption that participants are familiar with the basics of 3D modelling.
